For years fishermen have heard rumors of giant tarpon in huge numbers on the Southern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, near the border with Panama. After numerous trips, a group of fly-fishing specialists has developed a fishing operation within this previously unknown tarpon fishery. Even better, they specialize in fly-fishing. A number of tarpon weighing over 150 pounds have been landed on fly, and 20 hookups in a morning aren't unheard of either. There have even been reports that tarpon up to 200 pounds have been jumped.

The coast from Manzanillo to the Bocas del Toro Islands in Panama harbors many unfished lagoons, islands and shorelines, and currently the only lodge in the area is Tarponville. The managers and guides at this jungle lodge have spent more than 200 days in the past four years exploring these new tarpon and snook waters, with more areas yet to be scouted.
